The Bandera County Republican Women held their first meeting of 2025 to hear former Bandera GOP Chair Conrad Striegl outline his priorities for the 89th legislative session, which began Jan. 3 in Austin.
Striegl plans to attend hearings and sessions to represent Bandera County and Republican values, focusing on school choice and voter integrity.
He emphasized the need for a major overhaul of the Texas Election Code and expressed support for David Cook as the next House Speaker, following former Speaker Dade Phelan’s decision not to seek re-election to the role.
Striegl also highlighted the impact of incumbents losing re-election and noted progress on Second Amendment legislation in the previous session. He attended legislative hearings and sessions 17 times in 2024.
During the meeting, President Brandi Conover introduced reports from Secretary Tiffany Shirey, Treasurer Sharon Striegl, and Membership VP Melanie Burns, all of which were approved.
Burns reported that 19 members have paid dues for 2025, while the group maintains nearly 100 contacts on its email and Facebook lists.
The club plans to change its meeting location after the February meeting, moving to the Flying L Hotel starting in March.
In New Business, members discussed participating in the Mardi Gras Parade on Feb. 22 and spring Trump Train events.
President Conover reviewed the group’s 2024 activities, which she will submit to the Texas Federation of Republican Women.
The next meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Silver Sage Dining Room.
