The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has deployed additional disaster recovery personnel to California to aid in wildfire response and recovery efforts.
The deployment follows a request from CAL FIRE through the California Office of Emergency Services.
“As wildfire response efforts continue in California, state disaster recovery personnel have deployed to support our fellow Americans as they begin to recover,” said Texas Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd. “Please join me in thanking the first responders and emergency management personnel working around the clock to support those impacted by these devastating wildfires.”
TDEM’s disaster recovery personnel will assist with mass care and sheltering, navigating federal assistance programs, managing volunteers, and addressing other immediate and long-term recovery needs.
This deployment joins the efforts of more than 135 Texas firefighters, emergency management personnel, and medical staff, along with over 45 fire engines, ambulances, command vehicles, and other equipment sent by Texas Governor Greg Abbott last week.
These teams are helping combat wildfires in southern California.
The deployment is being coordinated through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a state-to-state mutual aid agreement that allows states to share resources and provide assistance during disasters or emergencies.
