Robert G. “Bob” Mc-Cullough, APR, Fellow PRSA, will retire Jan. 31 from his communications role at Morgan’s, the nonprofit organization behind the renowned Morgan’s Wonderland theme park and its related Ultra-Accessible ™, fully inclusive ventures.
McCullough has been a key figure in the organization, which focuses on creating spaces designed for the special-needs community and built for everyone’s benefit.
McCullough joined the Morgan’s Wonderland team in early 2010, while the groundbreaking theme park was still under construction.
For more than a decade, he served as communications director before transitioning two years ago to a role as communications consultant, reporting directly to Gordon Hartman, the founder and chair of Morgan’s.
“It truly has been the experience of a lifetime collaborating with a visionary like Gordon Hartman to help spread the word about Morgan’s and its mission of inclusion – bringing together those with and without special needs for interaction and a better understanding of one another,” McCullough said.
Before his work at Morgan’s, McCullough held prominent roles in public relations, including leading PR for SeaWorld San Antonio and corporate communications for CPS Energy, San Antonio’s electricity and natural gas provider.
He also served as a public affairs officer in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve for 30 years, retiring as a colonel.
A native of Port Arthur, Texas, McCullough earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1970 and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism in 1972.
Throughout his career, McCullough has been recognized for his contributions to the communications field. An accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), he was inducted into the College of Fellows in 2021, an honor recognizing extraordinary contributions to the profession.
He is a past president of PRSA’s San Antonio Chapter and the Texas Public Relations Association and has received numerous accolades, including three national PRSA Silver Anvil awards and the 2005 Tex Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award.
McCullough and his wife, Shelley Bennack McCullough, reside near Camp Verde in the Texas Hill Country.
