The Bandera County Commissioners Court welcomed back Precinct 2 Commissioner Greg Grothues at last Thursday’s meeting; he had been out for several months due to health issues.
During an executive session, eight applicants were interviewed to fill the Justice of the Peace role for Precinct 4, following the passing of Judge Lynn Holt on Dec. 5, 2023.
The court selected Nell Hardin, Holt’s first clerk, to assume the position.
The Court approved a bond for Jason Rutherford as County Fire Marshal for a two-year term beginning Dec. 1, 2024.
At the request of Judge Mike Towers, the Court approved the installation of an additional door at City Hall, a property owned by the County.
Referring to a recent Bandera City Council meeting where limited space was evident, Towers said, “This is an important security matter as well as a fire matter.”
Kimberley Miles, chairperson of the Bandera County Historical Commission, presented 15 voting committee members for 2025–2026, including 13 returning members and two new appointees.
Several non-voting volunteers were also named.
All appointments were approved.James Hernandez, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, requested permission to use the courthouse lawn for the Cowboy Mardi Gras Arts & Crafts Show on Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The request was approved.
The Court unanimously approved the County’s Investment Policy and Strategies, as required by the Texas Local Government Code, Section 2256.005(e).
Judge Richard Evans remarked, “We’ll make more money this year.”
The court also appointed the Investment Committee, which includes County Auditor Darryl Sadler, County Treasurer Beverly Schmidt, Precinct 3 Commissioner Jack Moseley, and Precinct 1 Commissioner Troy Konvicka.
Additionally, the Court approved the following preliminary plats:
• Lakeshore Beach Subdivision Unit 3, Block E, Lots 63-73, replatted into a single lot.
• Lost Valley Shores Subdivision Section 5, Block 1, Lots 101 and 102, replatted into a single lot.
• Scenic Harbour Estates Subdivision Unit 3, Lots 68-72, replatted into a single lot.
• Pebble Beach Subdivision Unit 1, Block 3, Lots 49 and 50, replatted into a single lot.
The Court also scheduled a public hearing for Feb. 27 to consider a preliminary plan for Lakeshore Subdivision Unit 1, Block 3.
