Mrs. Frances Hayes, Bandera County resident, received her 70Year Membership Award on January 14 at the Bandera Chapter of the Eastern Star No. 643.
Mrs. Hayes began her journey with the Order of the Eastern Star in 1954 when she was initiated in Hawkins, Texas.
She later transferred her membership to Commerce, Texas, before finally settling in Bandera, Texas, in 1983. In Bandera, she served the Eastern Star with distinction, holding several chapter offices, including two terms as Worthy Matron (1987-1988 and 1998-1999).
One of Frances’ most enduring contributions was the establishment of the Socks and Shoes Program within her chapter.
After discovering that local school children lacked adequate footwear, she launched this initiative, which continues to provide essential support to needy students.
The Bandera Chapter continues to collect shoes and socks for distribution to needy students in county schools.
Her service extended far beyond her local chapter.
Hayes held positions at the Grand Chapter level (state), serving on both regular and special committees under the Worthy Grand Matron (state level).
Notably, she was appointed Deputy Grand Matron for 20022003 and served on the Educational Fund Committee of the Grand Chapter from 2003 to 2007.
Through her tireless efforts and heartfelt dedication, Frances Hayes has left an indelible mark on the Bandera Chapter #643 and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She has embodied the principles of charity, truth, and loving kindness throughout the course of her life.
Bandera Chapter No. 643 wishes to congratulate Frances Hayes on her lifelong service to the community through Eastern Star and her contributions to the Eastern Star organization.
