Editor’s Note: The following letter refers to cartoon published as a letter to the editor from Bill Stevens in last week’s issue of the Bulletin.
I understand that letter writers can say whatever they want, because so far we still allow free speech in our nation. However, the cartoon printed in the Feb. 5 issue of the Bulletin presented an inflammatory, if not defamatory, opinion.
Does free speech mean accusations of crimes require no evidence? (We already know the answer to that from watching our current President and his cronies.) To anyone familiar with the legal controversy over the pumping request of Camp OTX, which is admittedly complex, the cartoon completely misrepresents the position of the BCRAGD board and accuses them, in very insulting terms, of taking kickbacks and abandoning their role as guardians of Bandera’s precious water resources.
