UIL ACADEMIC TEAM EXCELS AT BOERNE HILL COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

The UIL Academic, Speech, and Debate team had a successful showing at the Boerne Hill Country Invitational over the weekend, bringing home multiple top finishes across various events. Vanessa Perez took first place in spelling, leading the first-place spelling team alongside Sarah Le, Ashley Meza Sanchez, Emma Rynarzewski, Isabelle Smith and Ozzie Knowles. Le also placed third individually in spelling.

Other notable finishes included Edyn Knudtson’s second-place finish in literary criticism and third place in copy editing, as well as Ozzie Knowles earning first in editorial writing, second in copy editing, third in headline writing and fifth in current events. Ruffin Scartocci placed first in headline writing and sixth in editorial writing.

In speech and debate, Alyssa Ruch placed second in Lincoln- Douglas debate, followed by Micah McCreary in third. Isabella Chapa finished second in poetry, with Luke Parks in third and Madison Casey in fourth.

Parks also placed fourth in persuasive speaking, while Aiden Garcia finished fifth in the event. Sydney Mc-Daniel earned second in prose.

Additional results included Taylor Marrs finishing fourth in ready writing, Knudtson placing seventh, Sammy Bottoms securing sixth in computer science and Jaden Dower placing seventh.

The team is coached by Ginger Frye, Emily Huber, Stephanie Jones, Aidan Keane and Brady Keane.
