The Frontier Times Museum has been ranked No. 6 on USA Today’s 10Best list of the best small-town museums in the country.
Located in Bandera, Texas, the museum offers a glimpse into the ranching history and culture of the American West.
Its collection includes cowboy memorabilia, Native American artifacts, and eclectic curiosities such as a 2,000-year-old corn cob and a two-faced goat.
The museum also houses the Texas Heroes Hall of Honor, celebrating local figures who have shaped the state’s history.
The ranking, determined by an expert panel and reader votes, highlights museums that showcase the unique history, culture, and identity of small-town America.
Other Texas museums also earned spots on the list, including the Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine, which ranked No. 7. Located on the campus of Sul Ross State University, it showcases the history and culture of the Big Bend region of Texas and Mexico through exhibits and artifacts. The top honor went to the Concord Museum in Concord, Massachusetts, which features exhibits on the town’s role in the American Revolution and its literary heritage tied to figures such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.
Other notable museums in the top 10 include the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum in Virginia, which ranked No. 2, offering interactive farming exhibits, and the Shriver House Museum in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, which ranked No. 3, providing insight into civilian life during the Civil War.
Rounding out the list were museums such as the Eureka Springs Historical Museum in Arkansas, the Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center in Florida, and the Allegany Museum in Maryland, each recognized for their contributions to preserving local history.
