Bandera Canyonlands Alliance urges community action

The Bandera Canyonlands Alliance (BCA) is calling on local landowners to attend a key public hearing this week as the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District considers high-volume water well permits.

The meeting is set for Thursday, Feb. 27, at 10 a.m.

in Bandera.

BCA’s recently unveiled “ Protect Our Water—Protect Our Future” initiative aims to raise awareness about increasing water demands in the region, particularly from largescale commercial developments.

The group warns that unregulated expansion of subdivisions, recreational lakes and other water-intensive projects could further strain the area’s already fragile water supply.

“Many landowners are already facing dry wells, and springs that once fed our rivers have slowed to a trickle,” BCA says in a post on their website. “Meanwhile, some large recreational lakes appear full, masking the growing imbalance in water availability.”

The organization is urging residents to get involved by attending public meetings, advocating for responsible leadership and helping collect data on the region’s aquifers.

“The decisions made today will set lasting precedents for our region,” BCA stated. “We must act now to protect our water for future generations.”
