Lakehills library welcomes new artist

There is a new artist exhibiting at the Lakehills Area Library during the month of March.

While new to the Lakehills art scene, Barbara Shepard is not a stranger to Bandera County.

She and her husband Joe spent some years traveling before settling down in Bandera in 2011. The couple is involved with the development of Cielo Rio subdivision and she has been on the Board of the Arthur Nagel Community Clinic for a dozen years.

Shepard began painting in the 80s while living in California and she even received a Best of Show at the California State Fair. She started by painting clocks, furniture, dishes and Christmas ornaments. She once painted a mural on her grandson’s bedroom wall. Shepard then began teaching art and did that for 10 years prior to moving to Bandera.

Eventually she studied grisaille painting, which involves developing a design in black and white, with various grey values in between.

In addition, Shepard paints landscapes, using both oil and acrylic. More recently she has been producing beautiful works with fluid acrylics and abstract art.

Her love of art and its many media is obvious in her enthusiasm.

Although she does not actively sell her artistic creations, she will occasionally make some of her work available for purchase. If interested in any of the pieces she is displaying, please contact the library for more information.

The Lakehills Area Library is located at 7200 FM 1283 and the phone is 830-510-2777.

Their hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
