Medina ISD’s softball and baseball teams won their respective tournaments Feb. 28-March 1, the fourth annual event for the school. It was the first time both the Lady Cats and Bobcats won in the same year.
On Feb. 28, the Lady Cats defeated Knippa 151. Brooke Mancha and Kailey McCabe each had two hits, and Brylee Joseph drove in four runs. Hattie Barton pitched the win, allowing one hit and striking out four.
Medina then beat Brackett 14-3. Hallie Kunz, Barton, Crista Zirkel and McCabe each had two hits, and Kunz and Mancha each had three RBIs. Barton earned the win, and McCabe got the save.
Medina lost to Leakey 8-5. Kunz went 2 for 2, and Zoey Taylor hit a two-run double.
The Bobcats defeated Center Point 14-7. Davis Peterson went 2 for 2 with three RBIs. Holland Cook earned the win, and Ty Jones got the save.
Medina then beat Leakey 10-1. Peterson and Cook each had two hits, and Peterson pitched the win.
On March 1, the Bobcats defeated Knippa 5-3. Nathan Jilek pitched the win, and JT Kunz got the save. Cody Swinney went 2 for 2.
In the championship game, the Bobcats beat Knippa 9-2. Swinney again had two hits, and Peterson and Cooper Arnold each drove in two runs. Cook pitched the win, allowing one hit and striking out four.
The Lady Cats beat Brackett 13-5. Audrey Gatlin went 4 for 4 with two RBIs. Kunz hit a two-run homer in the third inning. Barton pitched the win, striking out four.
In the championship game, the Lady Cats defeated Leakey 7-1. Kunz went 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Mancha drove in two runs, and Barton struck out five.
Cook and Barton were named tournament MVPs. Kunz and Joseph were named to the all-tournament softball team, and Peterson and Arnold were named to the all-tournament baseball team.
