DRT honoring Texas history with monthly meeting, ancestor day

The Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) are inviting all history enthusiasts to celebrate Texas History Month at their monthly meeting on March 24 at 10:00 a.m at First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Drive in Kerrville.

The meeting will feature Chapter Registrar Judy McVay leading a “Texas Ancestor Day” where attendees can share stories about their ancestors who lived in Texas during the days of the Republic.

This event is part of a statewide celebration of Texas History Month, which commemorates significant moments in the state’s past.

March 2 marks Texas Independence and Flag Day, recognizing the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence and Sam Houston’s birthday.

Alamo Heroes Day follows on March 6, honoring the brave defenders of the Alamo.

Goliad Heroes Day, on March 27, remembers the tragic execution of 342 Texian soldiers at Goliad, whose sacrifices inspired the cry “Remember the Alamo” and “Remember Goliad.”

Throughout March, the DRT continues to recognize these pivotal events with educational programs and public celebrations.

Those interested in learning more about Texas’ early history or joining the DRT are encouraged to attend.

For more information on the March 24 meeting, contact Judy Mc-Vay at 830-537-3742 or judithmcvay8@ gmail.com.
