Genealogical society hosting meeting, workshop

The Kerrville Genealogical Society (KGS) will host two events in March, offering opportunities for genealogy enthusiasts to expand their research skills and connect with others in the field.

The KGS General Meeting will take place Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Guadalupe Basin Natural Resources Center, 125 Lehmann Drive.

The event is free to attend. The meeting will feature a webinar, “Using Timelines to Focus Your Research,” presented by Susan Ball, a well-known figure in the Texas genealogical community.

Ball is a past president of the Texas State Genealogical Society, co-editor of Stirpes and president of the San Angelo Genealogical and Historical Society.

She has published four genealogy books, three of which have won Texas State Genealogical Society book awards, including the grand prize.

The webinar will focus on how to create timelines to uncover overlooked research opportunities.

KGS will also host a hands-on FamilySearch.org workshop on Saturday, March 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Guadalupe Basin Natural Resources Center classroom. The cost is $15 for KGS members and $20 for non-members.

The workshop, led by Jean Nunnally, first vice president of KGS, will guide attendees through the functionalities of FamilySearch. org, helping them set up, navigate and collaborate to build their family tree.

Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops to follow along.

Nunnally, an experienced genealogist, recently conducted research at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.

Space for the workshop is limited. To reserve a spot, call KGS at 830-315-1836. Payment will be accepted at the door.
