The Faith and Freedom Club of Medina hosted a meeting with cowboy filmmaker Dennis Allyn and Dr. Donald S. Frazier, Director of the Texas Center at Schreiner University.
The meeting started out with Allyn showing his new film short The Awakening of Jacob Crown.
This 17-minute film was the story of how a wandering cowboy returned to his faith in God.
Allyn played the role of Jacob Crown and took the film to the Wild Bunch Film Festival in Tucson, Arizona. It won Best Actor for Allyn, as well as awards in several other categories.
The film was shot exclusively in Bandera County in July 2024.
Allyn screened the film for the Faith and Freedom audience to a very positive reaction.
Allyn stated that he had thought to slow down on his filmmaking but was called by God to make this film.
“I usually take a story from the Bible and then cowboy it up.” he commented.
The second speaker was Dr. Donald S. Frazier, Director of the Texas Center at Schreiner University.
The Texas Center is an educational resource for citizens and teachers. Frazier notes that by 2040 more people from out of state will be moving into Texas than native residents.
This project at Schreiner University provides short videos on Texas history, geography, and culture.
The project can be accessed through the web site TheTexasCenter.org .
The Texas Center also publishes books on Texas culture. They have 114 books published. Frazier showed several segments on Texas history and culture.
“We are in the cultural sustainability business,” he stated.
The next meeting of the Faith and Freedom Club of Medina will be on Monday, April 14 with refreshments at 3 p.m. and the program starting at 4 p.m.
