Master Naturalist chapter hosting talk

The Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter, is hosting a special talk on the City Nature Challenge and iNaturalist on March 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Guadalupe Basin Natural Resources Center in Kerrville.

The public is invited to attend this free event.

The City Nature Challenge is an international initiative designed to engage people in exploring nature and sharing their observations.

Last year, more than 80,000 participants worldwide contributed 2.4 million photos of 65,000 species.

This year’s bioblitz is scheduled for April 25-28, 2025. The talk will cover how to get involved in this event and how to use the iNaturalist app to document and share your observations.

The speakers for the event are Peter Joseph Hernandez, City Nature Challenge Coordinator, and Syanne Pyle, Curator for the Birds of Texas Nature Trackers program. Hernandez, a member of the Alamo Area chapter of Texas Master Naturalists and an advocate for biodiversity through citizen science, has coordinated the City Nature Challenge since 2020. Pyle, a Texas Master Naturalist and retired secondary school teacher, has been involved in the challenge since 2019 and enjoys educating others about nature.

The event will take place at the Guadalupe Basin Natural Resources Center, 125 Lehmann Drive, Suite 100, in Kerrville.

Online attendance will be available via Facebook livestream and Zoom. For Zoom participation, pre-registration is required at this link: https://us02web.zoom. us/j/84850885770.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with light refreshments served. The Hill Country Chapter’s business meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation at 7:00 p.m.

The Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter, is a volunteer organization supported by Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.
