Schreiner University rejoining American Southwest Conference

Schreiner University will rejoin the American Southwest Conference (ASC) beginning in the 2026-2027 academic year, the university announced.

Schreiner had previously been a member of the ASC from 1999 to 2013 before switching to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2014.

“We are honored to be part of the renewed American Southwest Conference, which will provide stability and excellence for our student- athletes and coaches,” said Dr. Charlie McCormick, President of Schreiner University. “In a time of uncertainty in college athletics, this partnership offers much-needed certainty for our future.”

Rejoining the ASC will reduce travel distances for student-athletes, families, and fans, while also rekindling rivalries from Schreiner’s previous tenure in the conference.

McMurry University will also join the ASC in 2026, following a year of evaluation and collaboration, according to conference officials.

“The addition of Schreiner and McMurry will enhance the success and continuity of the ASC,” said David Flores, Commissioner of the ASC. “I’m proud of the leadership and commitment of our member institution presidents as we focus on the long-term future of the Conference.”

In addition to Schreiner and McMurry, other members of the American Southwest Conference include East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
