Murder suspect appears in court

Authorities continue searching for evidence in the case against Brad Simpson, the Olmos Park man accused of murdering his wife, Suzanne Simpson, whose remains may be in the Bandera area, according to investigators.

Simpson appeared in court last Wednesday, March 19, for a discovery hearing initially scheduled for March 12.

Judge Joel Perez of the 437th District Court had set a 30-day window for the hearing as investigators, including the Texas Rangers, continued gathering evidence. That situation remained unchanged, with forensic testing still pending.

Simpson’s defense team stated they had enough material to proceed with a motion to quash the indictment, which is now set for April 22.

Prosecutors expect to receive five to six terabytes of evidence from the Texas Rangers, while the defense is reviewing about one terabyte of discovery before moving forward.

Simpson has been in custody since Oct. 9, days after his wife disappeared from their Olmos Park home.

Although her body has not been found, a Bexar County grand jury indicted him in December on charges of murder, tampering with evidence, and possessing prohibited weapons.

Authorities said Suzanne Simpson, a mother of four, was last seen at a party at The Argyle on Oct. 6.

Brad Simpson reported her missing the following night, though investigators later determined the couple had been in a dispute before her disappearance. Surveillance footage showed Simpson transporting trash bags, a large trash can, and a bulky item wrapped in a blue tarp the day after she vanished.

In November, Simpson’s business partner, James Cotter, was also charged for allegedly helping him hide an illegally modified AK-47. Law enforcement previously stated Simpson has shown little emotion regarding his wife’s disappearance and has not cooperated with the investigation.

Authorities have not provided an update on the search for Suzanne Simpson’s remains.
