Bandera local Chris Hensley has been inducted into the 2024 Texas A&M-Kingsville Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a linebacker on the Javelinas football team from 1994 to 1997.

Hensley’s accolades include being named to a Lone Star Conference all-conference team in 1994, earning recognition as a Football Gazette National Player of the Week, and being selected as a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association and Football Gazette.

His 1994 team also holds a place in the Javelina Athletics Hall of Fame after reaching the NCAA Division II National Championship game and securing the Lone Star Conference (LSC) title. The Javelinas won the LSC championship again in 1997 and advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals.

While 1994 was a standout year for Hensley, 1997 marked what he called his “crowning achievement” when his team earned All-American recognition.

That same year, he was named first-team all-conference and all-region in the LSC.

Hensley’s success continued as he and the Javelinas claimed another LSC title in 1997.

Following his collegiate career, he was selected to play in the 1997 Snow Bowl, a postseason college football all-star game held at the Fargodome in Fargo, North Dakota.

Athletics remain a central part of Hensley’s family. His daughter, Samantha, plays volleyball for Texas A&M-Kingsville, following in the footsteps of her mother, Katie, while his son, Tyler, is a member of the Javelinas baseball team.
