Peterson Health names new president and CEO

Peterson Health announced today April 7 John McDonald, FACHE, will become the organization’s new President and CEO following a comprehensive search and interview process. McDonald will succeed the previous leadership in June.

“We are thrilled to have John as the next leader of our team,” said Mary Liz Eastland, Chair-Elect of the Peterson Health Board of Directors. “We interviewed several highly qualified candidates for this role. John stood out not only for his experience and leadership ability, but also for his alignment with our mission and culture.”

Board Chair Tom Houdeshell added, “I want to thank the members of our Search Committee for their dedication. We are confident that John is the leader who will carry on our legacy of exceptional, compassionate, patient-centered care while continuing our growth as a regional healthcare provider.”

According to a release from Peterson, McDonald earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University and an MBA and MHA from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. His career began as a patient care technician at Houston Methodist Hospital, where he worked while completing his master’s degree. He went on to serve in various leadership roles, including Director of Advanced Wound Care at Houston Methodist, Practice Administrator for Pulmonary Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital, and Chief Operating Officer John McDonald, FACHE, has been appointed President and CEO of Peterson Health, bringing over a decade of leadership experience in healthcare management, including roles at HCA Healthcare and Universal Health Services.

McDonald joined HCA Healthcare in 2015, where he served as Chief Operating Officer at Corpus Christi Medical Center before advancing to CEO roles at Lee’s Summit Medical Center and Centerpoint Medical Center in Missouri.

“It’s been a dream of mine and my wife Jessica’s to live in the Texas Hill Country,” McDonald said. “When this opportunity presented itself, I knew I had to put my name in the hat. Peterson Health has a long tradition of serving the Hill Country, and it’s an honor to lead such an innovative organization. We are excited to raise our daughters in Kerrville and contribute to this vibrant community.”

McDonald and his family are currently transitioning to Kerrville, where he will officially begin his new role in June.
