Third Bunny Run sees increased participation

The third annual Bunny Run/ Walk 5K, hosted by the Arthur Nagel Community Clinic, drew 22% more participants than last year and raised over $15,000 to support the clinic’s specialized care program.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the clinic’s specialized care program, which connects low-income patients to discounted specialty services such as cardiology, oncology and gastroenterology.

“This event is a reflection of Bandera’s heart,” said Susan Broa, Clinical Director and Bunny Run Producer. “From our participants and volunteers to our generous sponsors, the community made a real impact on the lives of our patients.” The fitness-focused fundraiser drew participants of all ages,manydonningfestivebunny ears—including a few fourlegged friends—as well as the signature white event t-shirts featuring a blue bunny logo.

A team of more than 30 community volunteers helped manage traffic, hand out water and cheered racers on as they crossed the finish line at the Village of Hope campus, home to the Nagel Clinic.

Local merchants and residents added to the excitement by donating handcrafted quilts and other door prizes, much to the delight of attendees.

“The Bandera community is incredibly supportive of everything the Nagel Clinic does,” said Executive Director Chuck Lutke. “They care deeply about their neighbors’ well=being and the success of the Bunny Run is one great example. We salute and thank every sponsor, volunteer, and participant.”

Top finishers in each age category included Uriah Aguilara in the 10–17 male division, and Resse Wentrcek in the 10–17 female division.

In the 18–29 group, Grant Weiner took first among males and Colby Green among females.

For runners ages 30–39, Ryan McAllister and Paola Gutierriz led the way.

Timothy and Jessica Wittner were the winners in the 40–49 category.

In the 50–59 division, A.J. Terrell was the top male finisher, while Kimberly Young led the female group. Among 60–69-year-olds,BruceDuncan and Donna Balderston placed first. In the 70–99 category, Craig Lewis and Gini Owens each earned top honors.

The clinic’s next major event will be a June 18 luncheon featuring Dr. Saleh Jaafar, the clinic’s medical director. More information is available at www.nagelclinic.org.
