SARA HERZING

Long time resident of Bandera County Sara Herzing Porter entered into eternal rest on Dec. 1, 2023, at the age of 80.Sara Herzing was born in Del Rio, Texas on Jan. 29, 1943, to Elizabeth Nell Swope Herzing and George Murdock Herzing.

Long time resident of Bandera County Sara Herzing Porter entered into eternal rest on Dec. 1, 2023, at the age of 80.

Sara Herzing was born in Del Rio, Texas on Jan. 29, 1943, to Elizabeth Nell Swope Herzing and George Murdock Herzing.

In 1955, her family purchased a 50-acre farm and moved to Uvalde, Texas where Sara graduated from high school in 1961. After 2 years of attending Uvalde junior college, Sara transferred to Southwest Texas State where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Education on Aug. 20, 1966. Sara taught in several schools in Devine, Natalia and Macdona.

Sara married Patrick Porter on Oct. 19, 1968, in Devine, Texas. On Dec. 8, 1974, Pat and Sara’s only child, a daughter, named Stephanie, was born in San Antonio, TX. Over the years Sara made many friends and had a positive impact on many people. She was a wonderful artist, cook and friend. Pat and Sara moved to Bandera county in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Wayne Herzing.

Sara is survived by her husband of 55 years, Patrick, daughter Stephanie Brown, son-in-law Jeff, and 3 granddaughters Emily, Sierra and Olivia Brown.

A memorial service will be held at Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel in Bandera, Texas on Jan. 2, 2024, at 5 p.m. Sara will be interred at Fort Sam Houston National cemetery on Jan. 3, 2024, at 1:15 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Bandera Funeral Chapel.
