Bandera County residents can again bring their recyclables to the Recycling Center beginning March 2.

The center was closed during February to allow volunteers to bale the accumulated aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and cardboard brought by residents to the center, located at the Bandera solid waste site, next to Mansfield Park.

Bob Brischetto, president of Don’t Mess With Bandera, thanked County Commissioner Jody Rutherford for his support of the recycling effort.

Rutherford is the liaison between the volunteers and the county. He advocated for volunteers to be trained to operate the baling machinery that enables the recyclables to be efficiently bundled and transported to processing centers where the materials will be reclaimed.

Janus Olive, recycling coordinator, praised volunteers who worked more than 370 hours to bale the accumulated material.

One hundred percent of recycled materials are shipped to processing centers in coordination with Keep Texas Recycling, a Texas nonprofit rural recycling cooperative.

The Bandera effort is an affiliate member of Keep Texas Beautiful. Proceeds from their sale will go to the county for use in supporting the recycling program and equipment at the recycling center.

The Bandera County Recycling Center will resume its normal operating hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 2, and every Saturday thereafter.

Acceptable items are flattened corrugated cardboard, clean aluminum drink cans and no. 1 plastic drink bottles.
