Butts releases statement following election night

As May 28’s runoff for Bandera County Sheriff approaches, incumbent Dan Butts has released a statement.

As May 28’s runoff for Bandera County Sheriff approaches, incumbent Dan Butts has released a statement.

The statement is in full as follows: “I would like to thank the voters of Bandera County who supported my Re-Election campaign in the March 5th Republican primary election. The election did not end as I would have liked but it is not over yet.

In the Runoff we start over, and it doesn’t matter who was first or second in the primary, all that matters is the vote count on May 28th.

We are working hard to move the Sheriff’s office into the future. I say we because it takes cooperation between a dedicated group of employees, Commissioners Court and other offices within the County to get these things done.

The State recently approved a Bill that provides a Grant of $350,000 a year to help Counties increase the Pay for Sheriffs and Deputies and to supply needed equipment.

Last Thursday the Commissioners Court approved my plan to disburse the Senate Bill 22 Grant money. This plan will dedicate the entire grant amount to increase all deputies and jailers’ salaries beginning this month.

This brings Bandera County Deputies and jailers salaries closer to equity with the surrounding Counties and should help in our recruiting efforts.

The Commissioners also approved the purchase of the Ten frequencies for our new Radio System which is the next step in the plan to improve our current system.

These changes will improve the Communication system for the Sheriffs’ office, EMS and Volunteer Fire Departments to better serve the citizens of Bandera County.

I will be working hard during this runoff to get my message out. I ask all voters to investigate both candidates, ask questions, talk to other elected officials, and business owners in the community then make an informed decision.

I believe if all voters compare each of the candidates Law Enforcement experience, integrity and dedication and service to our County the decision will be clear.

I ask for your support and vote in the May 28th runoff election.”

Butts will face off against Josh Teitge, whose statement can be read in last week’s paper and online at BanderaBulletin.com
