Medina High School One Act Play walked away from their first competition of the year as district champions.
OAP’s production of Kimberly Belflower’s “Lost Girl” was voted unanimously as the first place show by each judge of March 23’s contest.
Medina’s theatre troupe will next compete Wednesday, April 3, in San Antonio at the Bi-District meet.
In addition to their first-place finish as a company, several individuals were singled out for their outstanding contributions to the show.
Diana Vaca was awarded for her outstanding work as the Lightboard Operator.
Anthony Gardner made Honorable Mention All-Star Cast for his performance as Peter Pan.
Ella Castillo was recognized for her dual role as one of the Lost Boys Nibs, and as Nina by making All-Star Cast.
Raquel Devora also made All-Star Cast for her leading role as Wendy Darling.
Oz Zirkle was awarded Best Performer for his portrayal of the Lost Boy Slightly.
“Lost Girl” tells the story of the heartbroken Wendy Darling, now a young adult, still dealing with her loss of her first love Peter Pan who never came back for her.
The show has been praised for its poetic dialogue and its layered look at the pain of growing up, of young love, and of the girls who are left behind while boys go out on adventures.
Raquel Devora plays Wendy Darling, while Anthony Gardner portrays Peter Pan.
The show also features Sienna Carter and Lauren Reeves as a theatrical chorus of Wendy’s inner thoughts and feelings.
The rest of the cast play doubled roles with Ella Castillo as Nibs and Nina, Amelia Flores as Toodles and Doctor, Sophia Harms as Mom and Therapist, Brent Miller as Curly and Boy, and Oz Zirkle as Slightly and Detective.
Behind the scenes the technical crew consists of Kaydence Tilghman as the Sound Board Operator, Diana Vaca on lights, and Lily Voight returning as Stage Manager.
“Lost Girl” is directed by Chelsea and David Mc-Guff in their third year at Medina.
