The second annual 5K Bunny Run/Walk brought out over 100 runners to enjoy the cool sunny morning on April 13. The run benefited the Arthur Nagel Community Clinic.

All manner of runners came out, from the silly to the serious.

Many dogs, children, and husbands accompanied their runners to encourage them along the way.

The 5K started at the Village of Hope on 12th Street and wound its way around Bandera through the heart of town and back into the residential area, ending at the Nagel Clinic.

Workers were staged at critical turns, and all runners were followed to ensure safety.

Many Bandera notables came by to participate in the race like American Legion Post Commander Susan Junker, Sheriff’s Candidate Josh Teigte, Carolyn Rutherford, BISD Athletic Director Joel Fontenot- Amedee, Nagel Clinic Director Toni Serene, Hill Country Elementary teacher Lucretia Stringer and Bandera Natural History Museum Executive Director Mari Gullen-Fagan, a former winner.

The runners were awarded medals in seven categories. A Bunny Run 5K t-shirt was provided for each race participant as well as a “goodie bag.”

Runners were spirited and most enjoyed the sunshine and cool morning.

“Isn’t it a great day,” exclaimed one enthusiastic participant.

Most were smiling, even the serious runners.

“I got a good time, but not my best time,” remarked one runner.

The runners were laughing and smiling and all had positive things to say about the run.

“This is a great race, I had a lot of fun,” one commented.

On their way back some had lost their bunny ears, but none had lost their enthusiasm for a great little run through Bandera.

The Arthur Nagel Community Clinic is a local resource for those residents of Bandera County who are uninsured.

The clinic provides a variety of services to Bandera County residents and has served 507 patients this year alone with 5004 distinct health services with an average of 9.8 services per patient.
