The Medina Lady Cat softball team earned a pair of wins on Friday, May 3, in Georgetown to secure the series victory over North Zulch.
The wins allowed the Lady Cats to become Regional Quarterfinal Champions for the second year in a row and advance to the Regional Semi Final round in the Texas State Playoffs.
In game one, North Zulch took an early lead in the contest by a score of 2-0 at the conclusion of the first inning.
The Lady Cats would not be denied and battled back to tie the game in the third inning.
Five more runs in the fifth and eight in the sixth secured the win for the Lady Cats by a score of 16-6 via the ten-run rule.
Leading the offense for Medina was Hallie Kunz with six RBIs on four hits, including a threerun homerun in the sixth inning.
Hattie Barton and Ahnika Grassie each added four hits, with Grassie and Autumn Turner earning two RBIs respectively.
Shelby Jilek and Audrey Gatlin scored three runs each to keep the scorekeeper busy throughout the later innings.
Barton got the win on the mound with 4 strikeouts.
The Lady Cat bats continued in game two.
Kunz, Grassie and Kailey McCabe led the team with two hits apiece.
Gatlin and Crista Zirkel each drove in two runs to help shut down North Zulch.
Strong, aggressive hitting and base running allowed the Lady Cats to put 15 runs on the board in just two innings of batting.
North Zulch was unable to answer, and the game was called by the 15run rule in just two and a half innings of play.
Kytlin Peterson was the winning pitcher, earning the playoff shutout.
The Lady Cats will now face Slocum in a threegame series for the Semi Final Championship.
