I am writing my full endorsement to re-elect Sheriff Dan Butts. I’m not going to discuss his opponent or all that is said on-line.
After working for Bandera County for 20+ years, with Road & Bridge and the last 7.5 year’s as County Commissioner Prct. 3, I have learned a lot. First there is a big difference between County Government and City or State Government.
When I went to my first school as an Elected Official I was amazed at how many newly elected people were upset because they learned a lot of what they campaigned on you can’t do in County Gov. I felt lucky because I had worked for Road & Bridge and I already knew how COUNTY GOVERNMENT DOES NOT WORK.
The Sheriff not only has the Sheriffs’ Department that we are all familiar with, but he also has the Jail and Dispatch departments. That is three separate budgets. It’s up to the Commissioner Court to approve or modify to fit total budget. There are many other issues that the Commissioner Court have to approve. To make the Sheriffs’ job more difficult, since Covid, his department has been short staffed along with the Road and BridgeDepartment. Sheriff Butts continually fights for more pay for his staff.
The Sheriffs’ job is mainly administrative, not one the road.
Jack U. Moseley Commissioner Prct. 3 830-522-1500 Call me if you would like P.S. You are all invited to Commissioners Court at the County Courthouse, every (2)&(4) Thursday of the month at 10:00am, to listen to what is going on in the County and not all the BS on line.
