Editor’s Note: The following is a paid political advertisement,
Within seven days of the date I write this letter, our community will have the opportunity to cast a ballot in one of the most important elections this year. The election I speak of is not that of Biden v. Trump. No. The election I speak of is more important than that. It is the choice for who will be the key leader in Law Enforcement for our county for at least the next 4 years. You see the old adage that all politics are local is truer than you think, for the leader that you choose here at home will inevitably be the difference between a community moving forward together or staying where it is and going nowhere.
Either way we go the credit, or the blame will rest solely on us. You see it is like the parent who has a child and expects the child to succeed but does little more than tells them what they wish they would do but never holds them accountable to do it. Then when the child comes home with bad grades and is unable to read, they blame the teacher but won’t even get off the couch to call the school. Instead, they run to a Facebook chat group to complain and blame everyone from the bus driver to the school board and the janitor to the principal never stopping by the mirror to see the one person that can make a difference.
Well Bandera, here is our chance to be the change and all we need to do is go down to a polling location between Monday the 20 th and Friday the 24 th of May. If that’s not enough you still have Tuesday, the 28 th . On top of that there is law enabling you to take time off to vote (Ref: https://efte.twc.texas.gov/ voting_time_off.html) If you still have questions there is a voting office to assist you (Ref: https://www.banderacounty. org/page/elections.home). In the end minimal effort will result in maximum impact.
Now part of that effort does require that you make an informed decision. How do you make a genuinely informed decision? You research. Call the candidates in question. Talk to respected leaders in the community. Review their record. As far as myself, I did that. I talked to several leaders in this community who I trust and respect. I listened to the candidates. I considered my own leadership experience and the examples, good and bad, of leaders I served with and knew at various points in their careers. In the end I made a conscience and educated decision to support a leader by the name of Josh Teitge. I heard his reasonable, logical, and aggressive action-oriented community focused plan for success. I heard his willingness to listen to and support other community programs and leaders personally. I heard his willingness to accept the responsibility that comes with the title and his willingness to hold the community responsible as well.
You see Mr. Good Idea lands on everyone’s shoulders. He will fill your mind with a grandiose dream and a vision of what things could be like. Most people will then run to tell everyone about Mr. Good Idea and how it should be done and who should do it.
However, when the person they’re talking to says ok, you lead the way they turn into Professor Excuses giving you Doctoral levels of reasons why they can’t. The difference with Josh is he puts combat boots on Mr. Good Idea and recruits a team to join him in taking dreamer’s hill.
The other difference I believe that there is with Josh is that I don’t believe that this is just a race to get an office where he can hang his hat and kick his boots up until the next election comes around. You see there are a lot of politicians who are like groundhogs.
They only come out of their hole around election time and then if they don’t see the bright light of a serious challenge they go back into their hole and get back to napping. Josh doesn’t strike me as that kind of guy and his time in combat and working in support of operators affirms that for me.
Josh is not a status quo kind of guy. He has already reached out and made relationships with other community leaders who want more. The old Montel Jordan song “This is How We Do it Here” is not on his play list. Instead, he has Chris LeDoux “Cowboy Up” and SKBs “No Easy Horses” cause he understands hard work and not giving up.
So, when next week comes you have a decision to make. Stay home and make excuses why you can’t vote. Then complain about the next 4 years and why nothing seems to change.
OR Cowboy Up. Get down to the polls and cast your vote. Then take the initiative to join the leader you elected to conquer the hill and hold him accountable as you hold yourself accountable. Once that’s done and we all pull together watch your community rise and watch our children lead this country back to God and the vision of our Founders.
As for me, I plan to be there on Monday and will cast my vote for Josh Teitge.
