Medina Elementary in grade Pre-K through fifth concluded a year-long fundraiser to support the Medina Volunteer Fire Department last week.
Classes competed for the opportunity to take a field trip to the fire department, where the children learned how to properly hold a fire hose as well as review what they learned from the MVFD visit to the school earlier in the year regarding what to do if they are ever in a fire.
After everyone got to shoot water from the fire hoses, the children were treated to a pizza lunch courtesy of the MVFD.
Medina Elementary Principal Melissa Dunbar noted, “It is very important for children to have a sense of community and realize the importance of giving back to the brave men and women who protect us. The teachers were great leaders in this endeavor and the competition between classes raised the total funds raised to a remarkable $2007.50!” Mrs. Smith’s first grade and Mrs. G’s third grade class tied with an amount of $771.00, so both classes got to attend the field trip.
“We are very honored to be a part of such a wonderful community!” she said.
