MILESTONES & MEMORIES: CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF THE SILVER SAGE
For four decades, The Silver Sage has been a cornerstone in Bandera County, dedicated to serving and delivering Meals on Wheels to older adults. This year marks an extraordinary milestone as the organization celebrates its 40th anniversary. With the unwavering support of 227 volunteers who collectively drove 109,203 miles, The Silver Sage delivered 84,687 meals to 1,429 vulnerable and often isolated seniors, bringing their four-decade total to over one million meals.
In collaboration with the San Antonio Food Bank, in 2023 The Silver Sage has distributed 643,700 pounds of food to 1,440 families in need, further cementing its role as a vital community resource. Beyond providing nutritious meals, The Silver Sage has evolved into a comprehensive resource center, offering social services, benefits enrollment assistance, financial aid for veterans and surviving spouses, mental health counseling, emergency home repairs, and more. Its activities and bus trips have been crucial in preventing social isolation among older adults, offering them entertainment and opportunities for socialization.
To commemorate this milestone, The Silver Sage is partnering with Dog Fest Bandera County All Class Reunion and the 11th Street Cowboy Bar to host 'Milestones and Memories' on Friday night, June 7th. This event promises to be a night to remember as a homecoming for many talented musicians and songwriters from Bandera. 100% of ticket sales will go directly to The Silver Sage. Alongside ticket sales, there will be tee shirts, raffles, special auction items, and other opportunities for attendees to contribute to the cause.
