The Texas Association of Campground Owners (TACO) recently honored Al’s Hideaway in Pipe Creek, Texas, with the Accommodations of the Year Award. This recognition highlights the exceptional offerings and service at the park, which was developed by Jennifer Green and Gordon Cook.
Named after Green’s grandfather, World War II prisoner of war Albert Banis, Al’s Hideaway opened in 2017 with six cabins and 10 RV sites. It has since expanded to include six additional cabins and two tipis.
The park’s furnished cabins, built by Ulrich Barn Builders in Cleburne, played a significant role in earning the award.
Green and Cook’s extensive backgrounds in construction have been key to the park’s development and success.
Green previously worked for the Texas Department of Transportation, while Cook’s experience in the oil and gas industry often had him working remotely from his RV. Their combined skills have shaped Al’s Hideaway into a top-tier destination for visitors.
Running the park is a family affair. Green manages the park office and store, while Cook oversees maintenance. They are supported by Green’s mother, affectionately known as Me Maw, who helps with cabin and grounds maintenance, and their eldest daughter, Samantha Jean, who handles reservations and various other tasks.
The park features a variety of amenities, including a 60-by-40-foot pavilion with an outdoor kitchen, bigscreen TV, surround-sound speakers, and a swimming pool. Guests can enjoy outdoor games such as cornhole, disc golf, volleyball, horseshoes, and checkers.
The campground store provides essentials like food, drinks, ice, and souvenirs.
TACO, a 52-year-old trade association based in Crowley, Texas, represents over 430 campgrounds, RV parks, and resorts across the state. The association supports its members by promoting the outdoor hospitality industry in Texas.
