The Bandera County Republican Party met on July 11 at the BEC Community Room to conduct its monthly business meeting.

Precinct 203 Chair Brandi Conover was sworn in by Chairman Mark Miller.

County Chair Mark Miller welcomed the group and spoke about participating in the community parades.

“First of all, I would like to thank the ladies’ group, … the float was fantastic. We had a hard road to follow them but had a great turnout,” remarked Miller. “I want to thank the ladies’ group and the people who worked on our float.”

Party Secretary Courtney Wilhelm called the roll, and all members were present. Chairman Miller called for a vote on the minutes of the last meeting in June.

In discussion, Precinct 204 Chair Shirley Grohman made a motion that requested that all votes should be roll call votes in the spirit of transparency.

“This will enable our constituents to see how their committee members vote,” she said.

She asked that the vote be tabled. The vote was tabled.

Treasurer Melanie Stringfellow gave the Treasurer’s Report. She noted that three people had not cashed their checks from the runoff election.

Stringfellow remarked that the Party had received a two-hundred-dollar donation and that she had paid the rental on the post office box for a year.

Stringfellow asked for suggestions for a Certified Public Accountant to review the audits. Several local CPAs were mentioned.

The Treasurer’s Report was approved.

Miller called for election judges. He stated that the lack of election judges caused the Party to call on Democratic Party election judges to work the election.

“We need judges. We had to pay the Democrats in the runoff election. When this county is 82% Republican, why should we have to pay the Democrats to do our job. I’m not saying they are going to do anything shady, but it's our job to do that.'

Miller referenced an online Zoom training offered by the Leadership Institute which was endorsed by the Republican Party of Texas.

He mentioned that the training would tell you how to canvass your areas and how to get your voters out to the polls.

He reiterated that a list of the Republican election judges, workers and poll watchers would need to be turned into the Election Office by the end of July.

National Voter Registration Day, September 17, was mentioned by Miller. “It is bipartisan, but that doesn’t mean we can’t set up a booth.

What I would like to do, I would like the precinct chairs to get with me to set up a little booth in each of the ten precincts.”

He referenced the web site www.nationalvoterregistrationday. org Chairman Miller said that the GOP website is being worked on. “When we find out the exact costs of it, we will send an email to let everyone know.”

In closing remarks Miller said, “One last thing in closing, you see a lot of new faces up here at the table. There’s a lot of people that, when I first said I was running and I said Bandera, First; to get Bandera First, we have to get the new people included. They are good decent Christian people who are young bloods. We need to have them involved because we are all getting old, and we need some people who can replace us. They have new ideas, new ways of doing things and have lots of energy.”

Chaplain Simon Gonzales gave the benediction and the meeting was adjourned.

The next meeting of the Republican Party is September 12 at the BEC Community Room.
