A Doggie 4 You, a dog rescue based in Pipe Creek, is seeking senior citizens who are looking for a little extra companionship.
Through the Seniors for Seniors Dog Foster Program, volunteers will be matched with a senior dog, typically 7 years or older, by the organization’s Adoption Coordinators.
The rescue provides all necessary supplies, including a crate, dog bed, food and bowl, collar and leash, and any medications the dog may need.
As a foster parent, your main responsibility is to offer a safe, loving home environment.
This involves caring for the dog as you would your own—providing food, affection, socialization, and exercise.
Most senior dogs are low-maintenance and require little exercise, often enjoying a laid-back lifestyle.
In addition, you will be asked to report back to the rescue about the dog’s personality and behavior.
In return, you’ll be rewarded with plenty of playtime, snuggles, doggie kisses, and the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped save a life.
Foster homes are needed for several reasons: 1. The shelter is overcrowded, and placing dogs in foster care helps free up space to rescue more animals. 2. Fostering allows the rescue to learn more about a dog’s personality and behavior in a home environment. 3. Many senior dogs need a safe, nurturing place to adjust after losing their previous owner or being surrendered.
To get involved, call 830-796-8269 and leave your name, phone number, and a message about your interest in the Seniors for Seniors Dog Foster Program.
