I live outside the city and therefore don’t get too involved in city politics, but I do care if the city seems to be making poor decisions regarding who is hired, whether as a city official or as a consultant. We (Bandera as a whole) end up looking like either rubes or slackers.
The article about the swearing in of the new city council members also included information from the city auditors, who questioned the performance of a consultant who “made numerous journal entries without supporting documentation … totaling roughly $10 million.”
After the debacle regarding former city administrator William Cox, including the firing of City Marshall Will Dietrich for minor infractions, it seems to me that the City of Bandera does indeed need some help with both common sense and doing research before decisions are made, especially about “consultants” whose opinions are taken at face value.
I hope our new city council members bring not only new energy but a new level of accountability to the city’s decisions.
