The city of Bandera, known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” will celebrate legendary Texas songwriter Robert Earl Keen on Saturday, September 7, with a special event marking the 30th anniversary of his iconic album Gringo Honeymoon.
The celebration will include a ceremony honoring Keen with a branding iron from the city, a proclamation from the Governor of Texas, and stories shared by special guests.
The event will also feature a recreation of the Gringo Honeymoon album cover in front of the 11th Street Cowboy Bar, which has been restored to its original 1994 appearance for the occasion.
“Robert Earl Keen has a deep connection to Bandera, where he wrote much of his music, including the song ‘Feelin’ Good Again’ about our own Arkey Blue’s Silver Dollar,” said Bandera Mayor Rebeca Gibson. “We’re honored to host this homecoming and celebrate the legacy of Gringo Honeymoon.”
The event will take place across various locations in Bandera, including the Texas Salt Block Courtyard and 11th Street, where local food trucks will offer a “Taste of Bandera.” The celebration runs from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Keen, who concluded his touring career in 2022, will be in attendance, along with local officials and special guests.
