DRT chapter kicking off in September

The Joshua D. Brown Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) will hold its first meeting of the 2024-2025 season on Monday, Sept. 23, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 321 Thompson Drive, in Kerrville.

Women over the age of 16 with an interest in Texas history or genealogy are invited to attend.

This meeting will focus on chapter business, so no guest speaker is scheduled, but visitors are welcome to join and learn more about the DRT’s mission and activities.

The chapter meets monthly from September through April, with a festive Christmas luncheon in December and a spring luncheon in May following the annual DRT National Convention.

Founded to perpetuate the memory of those who fought for and maintained Texas independence, the DRT also plays a significant role in education, historic preservation, and community service.

Members engage in preserving historical documents, securing historic sites, and promoting Texas history through public programs and collaboration with local schools.

The Joshua D. Brown Chapter, based in Kerrville, welcomes women from surrounding communities such as Ingram, Hunt, Bandera, Comfort, Boerne, and beyond.

In addition to community service, members enjoy social gatherings, educational talks, and networking with other women passionate about Texas history.

For more information about membership or upcoming meetings, contact Chapter President Jan Engler at j3engler@ msn.com or 830-5600969, or Registrar Judy McVay at [email protected] or 830-537-3742.
