The Bandera High School Speech and Debate team had a fantastic weekend at the National Speech and Debate Association Gulf Coast District tournament. This is the team’s first year to compete on this circuit. With an undefeated record, the Senior team of Katelyn Mendez and Elijah Sarazua are the NSDA Policy Debate District champions with an undefeated record. This is BHS Debate’s first national qualification. Freshman Cassandra Steffler headed to to finals in House Congressional Debate, placing eighth. Sophomore Micah McCreary headed to finals in Domestic Extemporaneous speaking and is the first national alternate. The team heads to Phoenix in June for national competition.
