The Bandera County Retired Teachers Association met at the Rodney Camp Pavilion in Medina for their February monthly meeting, where the guest speaker was Gary Bitzkie, Superintendent of Bandera ISD.Bitzkie began his presentation with a brief review of the legislative session in progress, including a salary increase for active-duty teachers.He noted Bandera has a hard time recruiting teachers for specialized fields.The Legislature has also been asked to consider a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for retired public school employees.Bitzkie stated that when retired teachers advocate for retirees, they help all teachers.
