Lady Bulldogs beat Fox Tech
The Lady Bulldogs slipped past the Fox Tech Lady Buffs 39 to 38 on Tuesday. While the Lady Bulldogs led throughout the game, the Lady Buffs gave them a run for their money which required a strong team effort and heads up play to win the game.
During the first quarter, senior Katie Dibrell began the scoring with a three-pointer just 20 seconds into the game. Junior Summer Haby took over as she led the Lady Bulldogs down court and began their assault of the Lady Buffs defenses. Haby stepped to the foul line and earned the Bulldogs another bucket at the minute thirty mark. Sophomore Izabel Kennedy scored at the two-minute mark as the team began feeding her the ball. At the midpoint of the quarter, Haby put in another goal from downtown and earned 3 points. Junior Estella Calderon showed a lot of hustle and grabbed rebounds from under the basket. The Bulldogs led at the end of the quarter 14 to 10.
The Lady Bulldogs increased their lead in the second quarter. Dibrell put another three in the hoop while,Cameryn Oullette drew the foul and went to the foul line. Of note was Estella Calderon’s ball handling and Summer Haby’s cool leadership bringing the ball down court. Taylor Hamilton came into the game and made two points at the six-minute mark. The team looked good and pulled ahead as the Lady Buffs struggled.
Coming back from half time, Izabel Kennedy got to work collecting rebounds and shooting foul shots. Tatum Trevino added to the score with a two pointer late in the quarter. Hannah Edwards and Trevino showed serious hustle as the Lady Buffs slowly crept back up in scoring. The third quarter ended with the Bulldogs at 33 and the Lady Buffs at 27. Even though the fourth quarter moved quickly, only Estella Calderon, Hannah Edwards and Taylor Hamilton made baskets for the Lady Bulldogs. Calderon began her strategy to intercept Buffs’ passes and was successful. Cameryn Ouellette’s scrappy play also contributed to this win. A kerfuffle after the end of the game between a Fox Tech player and Calderon was the only excitement to note. The Lady Bulldogs came away winners at 39 to the Lady Buffs’ 38.
