Local VFD hosts annual challenge fundraiser

Bandera Fire and Rescue hosted their annual Bandera Fire and Rescue Fireman’s Challenge last month on Oct. 21.

Bandera Fire and Rescue hosted their annual Bandera Fire and Rescue Fireman’s Challenge last month on Oct. 21.

The event was organized by the all-volunteer fire department to raise funds to support the everyday operational costs essential for responding to emergency calls from the county’s fire and first responders.

The events hosted by the department include:

• BBQ Cookoff: Participants contribute entry fees to support Bandera Fire and have the opportunity to win prizes generously provided by local businesses.

• Raffle Tickets: Bandera Fire members work diligently to sell raffle tickets to the community, offering a chance to win items donated by locals and local businesses. Some items are even donated by the department’s own members.

• BBQ plate sale: Bandera Fire and its supporters donate food, time, and supplies to serve a hot meal in exchange for a $12 donation until supplies are exhausted.

• Fill the boot: Many members of the Bandera community often express a desire to donate cash in support of the cause. Perhaps the main attraction of the event was the challenge itself. The challenge involves firefighters getting into their uniforms swiftly and then performing various tasks, such as using hoses and rescuing individuals from danger.

Chief Max Konz expressed the department’s immense gratitude for the support received from sponsors, the community, volunteers and, of course, the dedicated firefighters.
