Republican Women elect new officers

The Bandera Republican Women installed new officers for 2022- 2023. County Judge Richard Evans administered the oath for the group.

The new club president is Dede Skoglund. She is joined by new vice-president Laura Briscoe and secretary Janeen Ergang. Brandi Conover will be joining the executive committee. Melanie Burns will continue to oversee membership and Alma Baker will continue as treasurer for the PAC and club. Nancy Kunkle will continue as club historian.

After the installation, the club held a short business meeting. Melanie Baker presented the expenditures for the newsletter mail out which the group previously had approved. Dede Skoglund informed the

Dede Skoglund informed the club that a campaign headquarters office had been secured and the cost of rent would be shared with the Bandera County GOP. The headquarters is located across the street from the Grimes Funeral Chapel in Bandera, on the corner of 12th Street and Mulberry.

Outgoing president Carolyn Rutherford reminded the group that a review of the bylaws was needed and recommended by the state organization. The Consent Agenda was deferred until the January meeting.

Rutherford made a presentation to outgoing secretary Lila Ward and Dede Skoglund presented Rutherford with mementos to mark her presidency. Rutherford presented a new gavel to Skoglund to officially pass the torch of the presidency. Rutherford also reminded club

Rutherford also reminded club members that they would be caroling at the two local nursing homes for the holidays. She also mentioned that the group would be sponsoring the annual Breakfast with Santa at the Triple H Equine Therapy Center on December 18 in Pipe Creek. The breakfast was set to begin at 10 a.m.

Janeen Ergang gave a report on the scholarship committee’s process. Ergang said that the scholarship packets had been completed and would be distributed to Bandera County seniors in the early spring.

The next meeting of the BCRW will be on Thursday, January 6 at the Silver Sage Community Center. Bandera Bulletin Managing Editor and General Manager Dan Tucker will speak to the group. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m. The group enjoyed a potluck supper to celebrate the Christmas season.
