Physicals scheduled for student athletes
Low-cost sports physicals for the 2022-2023 school year will be given by the Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio on May 16 after school from 4-7 p.m. at Bandera High School. The cost of the physical is $20.
Bandera ISD requires all student athletes to have a new physical on file every school year. Rank One forms to allow participation in athletics will be available to complete online beginning May 9, 2022.
At the end of April, students were given three forms that must be signed by parents/guardians and returned to BHS Trainer Raul Martinez. These forms are due by May 9th. Parents/ guardians do not need to be present at the physical as long as all the forms are completed and signed.
The first form is a permission to perform the physical, the second form is for a required free heart screen from the August Heart Foundation, and the third form is a medical history form that must be filled out completely and signed by the parent/guardian and the student.
The August Heart Foundation performs electrocardiograms and, if necessary, echocardiograms on student athletes to prevent sudden cardiac death due to undiagnosed heart conditions. An electrocardiogram records the electrical signals from the heart to check for different heart conditions. Electrodes are placed on the chest to record the heart’s electrical signals which cause the heart to beat. The waves are shown on a computer monitor or paper to record the procedure.
Vital sign screenings were performed the week of April 25 – 29 on all High School and Middle School athletes. Authorization forms were given at that time. For more information or to ask questions, contact Raul Martinez at 830-460-3898 or at rmartinez@banderaisd2.net.
