The first Bandera City Summerfest took place at the City Park last Saturday and drew a crowd, especially young families, with many things to do and see.

That included kid activities, arts and crafts, a mechanical bull, open car show, food trucks and Bandera Idol Competition, Cornhole Tournament, and Sanctioned BBQ Cook-Off and Live Music featuring Rebel Roxie.

The event benefited the Bandera County 4H Shotgun team, Bandera County Boys & Girls Club (BGC), and the Bandera Volunteer Fire Department (VFD).

Adults and kids were looking around constantly at what they saw and heard, including music and the sound of a helicopter.

The event also included an educational event, presented by the Bandera County EMS, State Health Department and Care Flight.

That educational event featured a care flight helicopter on sight, a cooling station for visitors and a display showing how hot a car can get while sitting in the sun.

“We count Bandera City Summerfest as a huge success,” said Vicki Browning, one of three women along with Misty Dietrich and Debbie Asher who worked as hosts with the city and others to have a summer event.

The event replaced Riverfest, which was hosted by the BBA for over two decades.

Kristin Pound said she and her kids had a lot of fun.

“I enjoyed our interaction at Bandera Summerfest earlier. We are visiting from Golden, Colorado, but Texas natives. My parents live just down the highway,”she said.

Pound said her children - Oliver (8yr), Levi (6yr) and Kora (3yr) Thibodeaux – most enjoyed the EMS table and the Fire and Rescue tent with the kayaks.

Visitors tried to stay in the shade and several lemonade stands did strong business.
