VERSALLAISE WOOD MILLER

VERSALLAISE WOOD MILLER

Versallaise Wood Miller of Dilley, Texas passed away peacefully in a San Antonio hospital on February 19, 2025. Versa was born May 2, 1942, to Ira and Vivian Sutton Wood in Laredo, Texas. Her parents predeceased her.

Versa lived, grew up and attended all twelve years of school in Medina, Texas. In her Junior High and High School years she participated in athletics as well as in the school band. During her junior year in high school Versa entered the Stampede Queen contest, where she was selected as the queen to represent the Bandera Stampede celebration in Bandera County. She attended Sunday school and church at the First Baptist Church in Medina.

After her graduation in 1960, she moved to San Antonio to begin her career in the accounting field. She worked for a well-known moving company and later an insurance agency. She worked for this agency for several years. She was then offered a totally different job challenge-as well as a better salary with a Test Fleet Company in Pearsall, Texas. She began her new job as a dispatcher, then later transferred to driving the test vehicles. This allowed her to visit many places in the beautiful Texas hill country. Of course, this made her job more enjoyable and fun.

In 1985, after her father passed, she moved to the Los Lena Ranch in Dilley, Texas. With great determination and dedication, she continued the legacy of raising the famous King Ranch Santa Gertrudis cattle. The same breed of cattle raised on the family ranch. Through the years she raised goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, and cats. No doubt, she spoiled and loved every animal in her care.

Versa had a kind heart and took pleasure in supporting those in need. Examples are: The Boys Ranch, St. Labre Indian Schoolin Montana, St. Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota, Wild Flower Association as well as her church in Dilley, She had a great sense of humor, always looking for the good in people and did not want anyone to fuss over her. She loved to travel, enjoyed visiting and going out to eat with friends and family. Versa was born with a creative heart and was a natural artist. She loved to paint landscapes, grow plants, fix fences on the ranch, as well as redecorate her old ranch house.

She will certainly be missed by all, who knew and loved her.

Those left to honor and cherish her memory are: Sons-Delbert, Leonard (Sandy); Grandsons-Colby and Courtlan; Sisters: Lica, Yturrla (Sug Wiley) Mary, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates from 1960 Medina High school and many friends.
