TRAVIS LEO TUCKER
TRAVIS LEO TUCKER
Long time Alpine resident, businessman and civic leader, Travis Tucker, passed away at his home among family on April 4th.
Born to parents John and Vera Tucker (Sprott) in Bandera Texas, where he attended high school and would meet and later marry Joslyn Joyce, “JJ”, Wright in 1956. They had four sons before moving to Alpine in 1964 and their fifth son was born in Alpine in 1968. Travis’s work led him to West Texas where he fell in love with Alpine and soon moved the family.
Over his 60 years in Alpine, Travis established several businesses. Companies included T&S Contractors dirt work and paving, Lone Star Beer Sales distributing franchise and Rio Concrete with three plants serving the tri-county area. After his business days were over, he continued to work into his early 80’s doing what he loved, operating heavy equipment on area ranches.
His generous support for the community included sponsoring Sul Ross student athletes, the Lone Starlets softball team and hosting the annual July 4th celebration at the Marathon Post.
He also served on the city council where he helped shape Alpine’s future. He was an advocate for our city parks and ballparks, where he donated many hours of work.
He loved fishing, hunting and playing dominos at the Crystal Bar, as well as cheering for his favorite sports teams, the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and ‘06 Cowboys baseball.
Travis was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack, son Steven Doyle, grandson Jeremy and daughter-in-law Lawrie. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joslyn Joyce, brother and sisterin- law, John and Anna Lee; sister, Yvonne; sons and daughters-in-law, Travis Michael and Lisa, Darrell Scott and Stacey, Sharon, Cameron Baine and Barbra and Vernon Kyle as well as 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
