He was the son of a football coach and an art teacher who moved frequently and settled in Medina, Texas, where Mike developed his love of football playing for his father, Coach Britt. Mike attended Angelo State where he played college football for 2 years then set aside the sport he loved to focus on his pursuit of a medical degree.

A 1990 graduate of the UTMB School of Medicine, Dr. Britt returned to UTMB for a clinical research fellowship in surgical infectious disease following his internship at Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedics residency at the University of Missouri -Kansas City and a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive and Arthritis Surgery at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute.
