BEGINS WITH WINS

I’ve lived in Texas for over forty years, but it wasn’t until I moved to Bandera a few years ago that I learned much about Texas politics. The occasion was the 2020 Presidential election, and I volunteered at the polls along with a very interesting bunch of fellow volunteers, Republicans and Democrats alike.

When a cowboy or bull rider reaches a level where he gets a corporate sponsorship, he works for that sponsor. When we own our own business, we want employees that represent us to the public well and we think twice about how we speak to someone. We take our commitment to our sponsor seriously and we care that he or she or the business is well-represented.

A few headlines rang the news that some on the left are targeting Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor in a campaign to pressure her to resign from the Court now, while a Democrat still sits in the White House.

Bette Jo (Roberts) Koenig was born May 12, 1967, in Cuero, Texas and passed away Feb. 17, 2024, at her home in Bandera, Texas.

Charles (Sonny) Linus Batto, Jr., of Bandera, passed away on Feb. 15, 2024, in Bandera at 90 years of age. He was born in San Antonio to Charles and Lydia (Ploch) on Aug. 21, 1933, and was later adopted by Hazele (Greiner). And he married Mary Ann Fisher on Oct. 9, 1957, at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church in San Antonio.

The Arthur Nagel Community Clinic has announced its second annual community-wide BANDERA BUNNY RUN/WALK 5K to be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Rob Peterson, a 62-year-old retired tennis coach, is making world records on his stationary bike while supporting efforts by Operation Lifeshield in Israel.

I have a whole list of special things I experienced as a youngster roaming these parts back in the day. I truly wish I could go back and relive some of those things before I cash in my chips. The reality is, very little of the things, places or people from my early life are still around. It just wouldn’t be possible.

The Bandera County Democratic Club recently heard from local resident Lynn Brown on ways to engage youth and adults in the political process.

Medina Athletics was pleased to honor their senior basketball players and parents on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
