Mark Thomas Tobin, age 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2024 in Hospice Care at the home of his sister, Kathleen Tobin Krueger, in New Braunfels, TX. He was born on February 12, 1952 in San Antonio, TX, the son of Don F. Tobin and Margaret P. “Peggy” Tobin, former residents of San Antonio and long-time residents and ranchers in Bandera County, TX. He was a resident of Tilden, TX where he had been working on projects in the “oil patch” and a former resident of Bandera, TX.

Ten people gathered on the morning of Sept. 21 in Lakehills to walk a 2.2-mile route in support of The Trevor Project, a leading organization dedicated to ending LGBTQ+ youth suicide.

The Medina Cross Country runners competed in the Tivy Antler River Run Invitational meet at Flat Rock Park in Kerrville on Saturday, September 28th. “Through very competitive competition they performed well, and had some personal records set,” stated Head Coach Chad Coffey.

The Medina Community Library hosted the 14th Annual Medina Quilt Fest in the Rodney Camp Pavilion lastweek. The quilters from Medina put on this once-a-year event to showcase the talents of their members. This year’s theme involved cats, and most of the entries had cats worked into the design of the quilt. There were 94 entries composed of 60 bed/hanging quilts and other pieces of fabric art like placements, pillows, clothing, and chair covers. Embroidery was also displayed.

The October Book Sale will take place on Saturday, October 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the library meeting room. The November Book Sale will be Saturday, November 2, also from 10 to 2.

A 10-year-old Kerrville Independent School District student has been charged with making a terrorist threat after posting a hoax on social media that threatened a school shooting at Hal Peterson Middle School.

A simple reform to Medicare’s prescription drug program could put billions of dollars back into seniors’ pockets over the next decade. That’d help them better manage their chronic conditions and significantly lower overall health spending. Concerningly, that reform is gathering dust. That’s a huge problem for seniors -- and one we need to fix sooner rather than later.
