NEW BYSO SEASON BIGGEST YET

The Bandera County Democratic Party will host a public meeting and potluck lunch on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Silver Sage, 803 Buck Creek.

An anonymous donation from the Southwest Community Foundation funded sourdough baking classes at the Medina Community Library. Judy Strickland led two sessions at the Rodney Camp Pavilion, teaching patrons how to make and maintain sourdough starters. Attendees left with new skills and confidence to bake at home.

Let’s talk trash: the trash removed and/or recycled by volunteers who are saving Bandera County taxpayers money.

The Bandera County Historical Commission oversees the process by which historical markers are applied for and designated by the Texas Historical Commission.

Constance (Connie) McCracken was born in Nixon, TX April 30th 1942 and passed away peacefully on July 25th 2024 at home with family at her side. Connie was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Gary Lee McCracken; her parents Robert Royce Davis and Jo Nell Burrier; and her sister Sammie Lou Bronson.

At the August 22 Commissioner’s Court meeting, Judge Richard Evans announced a 4-cent reduction in Bandera County’s 2024-2025 tax rate, contributing to a cumulative 16-cent decrease over the past three years—a 23% reduction.

PARADE CELEBRATES LABOR DAY

The city of Bandera, known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World,” will celebrate legendary Texas songwriter Robert Earl Keen on Saturday, September 7, with a special event marking the 30th anniversary of his iconic album Gringo Honeymoon.

The Arthur Nagel Community Clinic is pleased to announce the selection of Ron Clarke as Honorary Veteran for its popular fundraising event, Cork & Fork, to be held at The Farm Country Club on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

The September Book Sale will take place on Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the library meeting room. The October Book Sale will be October 5, also from 10 to 2.

Lorecrafters, a writers critique group dedicated to helping members refine their craft, will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, September 11, at 10:30 a.m. T he gathering will take place in the meeting room at the Out of the Way Cafe, located at 10,877 PR 37 in Lakehills.

The Bandera Middle School volleyball teams kicked off their season with decisive victories against Pearsall, as the 8th and 7th Grade teams showcased their skills on the court.

A Bandera-based non-profit organization, Ride & Rise Above, is ramping up efforts to ensure that Christmas is a magical time for children in need throughout the community. The organization, led by local resident Scott Kaufmann, is aiming to assist at least 25 families this holiday season.

They may not be driving busses, serving food or teaching lessons, but Texas farmers and ranchers help students return to the classroom this month.
