Wow, Silver Sage future sounds like Utopia on Earth! However, expressions like creation of ‘a more inclusive and just society,’ ‘racial and ethnic disparities,’ ‘empowering people and building equitable communities’ means Federal Government money. With that comes OBLIGATIONS to the government — so get ready Bandera!

Don’t look now, but former President Donald Trump appears to be opening up a consistent lead in national polls against incumbent President Joe Biden, with Trump beating Biden 47.2% to 43.7%, according to the latest average of polls compiled by RealClearPolitics.com.

One of the primary rallying cries expressed by Presidential candidate Trump is the obliteration of the “Deep State.” This has resonated with many, if not all, of his supporters. The Deep State is considered a clandestine cadre of bureaucrats, military and intelligence personnel within our government, along with high level outside forces that generate or counter policies and actions in the governmental sphere.

A half-dozen lawsuits challenging the 13 approved Texas constitutional amendments appear to be dead in the water, The Dallas Morning News reported. The secretary of state’s office last week declared the propositions approved and now a part of the Texas Constitution, while Gov. Greg Abbott canvassed the election and certified the results. One proposition that would have raised the retirement age of judges was rejected by voters.

I live outside the city and therefore don’t get too involved in city politics, but I do care if the city seems to be making poor decisions regarding who is hired, whether as a city official or as a consultant. We (Bandera as a whole) end up looking like either rubes or slackers.

As just another Bandera County retiree, I would like to voice my opinion about the editorial written by Abraham Schneck in last week’s paper.

Young voters were one of the core coalitions that installed President Biden in the White House, supporting him by a twenty-four-point margin in 2020. Peering deeper into the data, young voters have been slowly drifting away from Democrats in each election since 2012. That drift has rapidly accelerated in the past three years as economic issues have become paramount for young adults. New polling suggests Biden is on track to lose double-digits with voters under thirty compared to the 2020 election, and economic issues are at the center of the problem.

What is happening to America, known since its founding as “The Shining City On A Hill,” a term derived from Jesus’s teaching in the Sermon on the Mount, making this country a model of Christian charity, a beacon of hope for the world and a place where all could be free?

I can’t imagine the complexities of running a newspaper in the digital age, and as an old schooler who loves his flip phone and doesn't have a Netflix account, I am grateful to live in a county where I can pick up a physical copy of the newspaper.

Humans have been killing those who disagree with them pretty much since we arrived on the planet (whenever you believe that was). Sadly, we continue to do that to this very day, despite the invention of more peaceful alternatives.

While Republicans rail against “wokeness” as one of their frantic appeals to attract voters, they fail to see the hypocrisy and outright danger in what they push forward in policy priorities and actions – a “sleep’ agenda.
